How to run Wii games off a USB HDD

Posted by: admin Post date: July 28th, 2010

Hey guys, cIOS Rev 17 is out! Use that instead! I really screwed up with some details on this video, so turn on annotations for a moar detailed explanation. Today, I’ll show you how to run Wii games off of a USB hard drive, without the use of a modchip! :) You will need: A Wii with an IOS that allows fakesigning (this means A Wii w/ System Menu 3.3 or below (3.2 reccomended) or a Trucha-patched System Menu 4.0-4.2 (like I have)) Waninkoko’s cIOS Rev 10 or above (Rev 17 highly reccomended for LU64+ Wiis, because earlier versions will stop your Wii from working ;) ) HackMii Installer (for Homebrew Channel, DVDX and BootMii) A USB Loader (Configurable USB Loader or NeoGamma reccomended, downloadable from GBAtemp.net) A few Wii games A USB hard drive with at least one free partition for WBFS (A PC program like PatritionMagic will do this for you) Some free time !!!!READ ME, IDIOTS!!!! Trucha bug fix – This trick requires the ‘trucha bug’ which lets you install WADs and, in this case, cIOS. This bug has been patched by Nintendo in System Menu 3.3v2 and above. To get it back, use WiiPower’s Trucha Bug Restorer, which can be found here: gbatemp.net Here’s a video made by REARN49 which explains how to use it: www.youtube.com This is the fastest and safest way to get the trucha bug back and install cIOS using IOS36. Have fun!

@slicedara Nah, usually it would take a lot more than that to brick your Wii. Generally, screwing around with the System Menu and its IOS and boot2 carries a very high chance of bricking your Wii, whereas doing something like this has a very low chance.

I like your accent <3 lol
btw, what does it take to brick a wii? Like, is it a “oops, pressed the wrong button”, then BAM there goes $200, or does it take a lot more screwing up than that?

@xr2 you can use any data storage device that connects via usb port and can be formated to the wii wbfs formate. you can also use sd cards , long as it is formated to wbfs :)
