72-Hour ‘Zelda’ Marathon Raises Money for Sick Kids

Category : Wii

GameToAid, a small Australian non-profit that live streams charity gaming marathons, has kicked off another epic quest to help children battling life-threatening illnesses.

The Zelda Timeline Marathon pits two teams head-to-head on a mission to finish six Legend of Zelda classics in 72 hours. Team Beedle and Team Tingle (named for some of the franchise’s quirkier characters) are racing to complete the games in story-chronological order, according to the official Legend of Zelda timeline released by Nintendo in December. Fans can view the live stream and comment in the chat. There are t-shirt contests and fan art showcases throughout.

The games on deck:

  • Skyward Sword (Wii – 2011)
  • Ocarina of Time (N64 – 1998)
  • A Link to the Past (Super Nintendo – 1992)
  • Majora’s Mask (N64 – 2000)
  • Link’s Awakening (Gameboy – 1993)
  • The Wind Waker (GameCube – 2003)

At the time of writing, the teams are 10 hours in and still slogging through Skyward Sword. They’ve raised $3,000 of their $5,000 goal, with plenty of time to go. The money will benefit Child’s Play, a charity that provides video games to sick children in more than 70 hospitals worldwide.

Tune in, pony up some cash for a good cause, and let us know which Zelda game is your favorite in the comments.
